Life is a game. Be the Hero.
You alone have the power to shape your life. It doesn’t matter where you’re at now. You can achieve your wildest dreams.
Welcome to the first post of my newest publication, Min-Max Life.
Just a mild-mannered kid
I was a nerd growing up. Great grades. Played the flute in marching band. Held down a job as a cashier at Target.
And with the money I earned, I spent it on video games.
My favorite genre has always been the RPG, non-nerd translation: Role Playing Game.
There are many RPG sub-genres (and if you really want to go down a rabbit hole, chef’s kiss for me is the Japanese RPG), but in essence, you are the main character and must level up to take on your next challenge until eventually you achieve your ultimate goal.
Min-Maxing
One reason why I can’t get enough of RPGs is that you can play your character any way you want.
Want to be more jacked than Arnold and Ronnie combined? Put all of your points in strength.
Want to have the rizz of a 1,000 Idris Elba’s? Load up on the charisma stat.
Want to clear out a dungeon full of goblins from afar like Legolas? Dexterity is where it’s at.
This is what us gamers refer to as Min-Maxing. It’s all about going hard on your strengths and developing them to the extreme.
You maximize on the attributes you want and minimize the ones that aren’t serving your play style.
When life gives you lemons, make lemonade. - Elbert Hubbard
And when you want to make a ton of lemonade, you squeeze the shit out of those lemons.
And because life is a game, you can apply similar strategies to min-max your life.
You are not on my level
And, honestly, that’s perfectly fine.
In fact, we’re probably playing different games. But regardless of where you are, my hope is that you’d find my stories, thoughts, and ideas inspiring or at least a little bit interesting.
I’ll write more about that in coming posts but here are some tidbits of my life.
Fell in love at first sight at the bright-eyed age of 22 and got married 8-months later.
Had 2 beautiful babies who are inching closer and closer to being 2 wonderful grown men.
Became a millionaire by investing for the long run.
Lost my high-paying tech job at the start of the pandemic.
Was recruited into another tech job and would make 2x my previous salary 4 years later.
Lost 10 lbs in the last month by eating unprocessed, natural foods.
Discovered the joy of writing and community building and decided to share my passions with the world.
Every step of the way I’ve treated my life like a game, improving day by day.
What to expect
You can expect to receive a brand spankin’ new newsletter from me every Sunday. It may be a strategy I’ve used, lesson I’ve learned, or an idea I’m chewing on.
I’ll also interact with you on a more frequent basis with short form content in my subscriber chat.
Thanks for being part of my guild. Truly.
